I figured it was time to break out the European pictures along with my good ol' Florida ones. This is... Well, a quick Google says that's Queen Anne standing outside Saint Paul's Cathedral, so I'll take their word for it.

St. Paul's Cathedral was... Breathtaking. The checkered floors and pained ceilings with the tall pillars were majestic and a real testament to their faith. Sadly, we weren't allowed to take pictures inside when we visited, but the outside was all up for grabs, so I nabbed this picture here.

As for a song... Hmmmm. Indie bands don't write about Queens too much, I'm afraid. Seven Nation Army by the White Stripes will have to do.

After the Storm

This was taken in the aftermath of a hurricane. I want to say it was Hurricane Wilma, but I'm not certain. This isn't the best quality shot ever, but I have to say it's one of my favorite photos that I managed to snap at the last minute.

The bird in question is a Great White Heron, although Wikipedia says it's a "Great Egret" and the term Great White Heron is no longer in use.

Through the Tunnel

My optimism at updating before midnight yesterday was short lived as I, of course, forgot to update today before midnight. At the risk of skipping a day, I think I'll start updating at midnight for a variety of reasons:
1. I am a night owl and am pretty much always up at midnight anyways.
2. The crazy people who get up early can read the new entries as soon as they get up instead of waiting for afternoon/evening, like I had been doing.

... Ok, so that's only two reasons, but they are very good reasons! Enough of that, though, let's talk about the picture.

I actually took a few pictures with this effect, but this one turned out the best. I achieved said effect by placing (of all things) a toilet paper roll over the camera and taking a picture. I think the result is quite interesting; I'm considering grabbing the camera and taking a few more shots in this style (and make sure they turn out decently; I haven't done much photography since this absolute spree I went on several years ago, but it's amazing what I've learned since then).

Oh, and... This one has music! Here is the song: Neighborhood #1 - (Tunnels) by Arcade Fire. Much more on track with what I usually listen to than the Jaws theme, heh.

The Velociraptor

When we moved about.... Five years ago, I believe. We had a water view before, but without this... uh... Charming creature.

If this goose has a name, I don't know it. As you can see, it's a common domestic geese. As with most common domestic geese (I presume), he is dumb, obnoxious, and has teeth like razors-- lovely teeth that are on display.

I try to add music to my photos, so I guess this is an appropriate theme. While you might not think this at first, you haven't been on the biting end of a goose; my fingers have bled more than once from this guy.

Edit: Official word is that it's a Chinese goose, not a domestic one (well, it's a domesticated Chinese goose, but... You know what I mean). Sorry, bird fans!

Squirrel's Eye View

One of the things I realize I'm going to have to do is come up with titles for all my photos as I post them. Eep! Thankfully this photo already has one, as you can see by the title.




As a homeschooler, I sometimes attend events sponsored by the local homeschooling group-- I believe this was something like an art show, and I was short on actual art pieces. (This isn't entirely true; I did have some art work, but I deemed my super-catgirl-ninja-goddess too awesome for normal eyes to comprehend).

So I decided to use one of my photos. I chose this one as one of the better looking, and after throwing some ideas around, I decided to call it "Squirrel's Eye View". I actually have several shots similar to this one- nothing is more fun than shoving one's camera up against a tree and taking a picture- but I think this one is this best, thanks to the natural lens flare provided by Mr. Sun.

The funny thing is, as we (my mom and I) headed over there, my photo in hand and my nerves in a jumble, we finally reached the building to find it... Dark! The art show had been canceled and we were the last to know; I never actually got to show off this photo until now, so I'm glad I finally can.

Hello!

Here is the first photo of my blog!




This was actually taken by my dad. He doesn't photograph a lot but if he sees potential for a good shot and has a camera on him, he will take it. The rest of the photography I post will be my own, but I think I have to give credit where credit is due; the artistic eye runs in the family.

Sometimes people tend to forget that Florida is the lightning capitol of the world. They think oranges and sunshine; alligators and Disney World. I think more than a few tourists are disappointed and surprised when a lightning storm hits.

It's been storming a lot here lately. Luckily for us, the rain held off until the evening, after we had already come home from the beach. Thank you, weather!
